OHSAS 18001:2007 Consultancy
What is OHSAS 18001:2007
Due to the rise in popularity of the ISO 9001 standard for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management, demand called for a similar standard to cover health and safety management systems. In 1999, this was published in the form of OHSAS 18001:1999.
Since revised, this is now the recognized standard against which health and safety management systems can be assessed and certified. The specification has been designed to be compatible with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management system standards.

Why you need OHSAS 18001:2007
Effective methods for managing occupational health and safety are becoming an essential business tool both to ensure legal compliance and to ensure a healthy, effective and happy workforce. Developing a management system for occupational health and safety that meets the requirements of OHSAS 18001:2007 means your system is as effective as possible.
The system will help protect your workers from accidents and ill health, reducing absences and helping retain staff. It will also maintain your organisation's reputation and boost productivity and profits. Finally it will reduce your insurance premiums and possible legal costs.
How can we help?
As with all standards, OHSAS 18001 requires you to formally document certain areas of your business, in this case relating to your occupational health and safety management and to keep evidence (records) that demonstrate you are operating according to the requirements of the standard. We are able to assist with all stages of this process.
The standard itself takes a risk assessment based approach to occupational health and safety management. To implement it we can help you to build an understanding of your occupational health and safety issues and performance, and to write a policy statement that communicates your occupational health and safety values to stakeholders.
We can then assist you in conducting an occupational health and safety risk assessment to determine significant issues, identify areas for improvement and set objectives and targets for improvement.
Once targets have been defined, we can help you develop and implement management programs to achieve them, and to periodically monitor and measure to check the programmes are effective.
Our consultants have considerable experience of developing and implementing management systems for occupational health and safety and helping gain certification to OHSAS 18001:2007. They also have a good understanding of the occupational health and safety issues facing businesses. We can assist with any or all of the above stages, making the process run more quickly and smoothly than it might otherwise. We will also endeavour to transfer knowledge to your staff as this is essential for the management system to function efficiently.
We also have experience of certification and can liaise with the certification body and help interpret the findings of certification audits to ensure the actions taken to address them are adequate. In the longer term, once certification is achieved we can help maintain the system, perform internal audits, attend surveillance audits and provide any other expert advice or assistance required.
